A JOURNEY THROUGH THE MINDS AND HEARTS OF YOU AND I

at the Glassbead Space

Press Release

Walking into this space, one joins in mirrored participation - becoming both voyeur and spectacle. Reflective and shadowed aspects, possibly viewed as positive and negative aspects of oneself, are both felt and displayed. Word and images create a dreamlike atmosphere, an aesthetic and partially unconscious exploration awaits…
This installation tells the story of one womyn's journey through her world. While images of the earth, child in womb, relationships, sex, and loneliness flash across the screen, ideas of growing pains and pensive realities linger. Mannequins, dolls, and robots speak of fear of stagnation or conformity and challenge us to rise above it. We are confronted with how we feel ourselves about such issues. Images, both original and sampled, are used to convey individual perceptions and the collective opinions. Many of these images being from music videos from the artist youth are meant to trigger an unconscious sense of familiarity with exaggerated emotions and manipulated actions of the mass media, especially on the identity-seeking adolescent. It provokes feeling of insecurity, mystery, awe and contemplation otherwise ambivalent in our subconscious.

This exhibition meshes with the Glassbead Collective in that it emphasizes identity and contextualization through pop media, combined with my individual work, in order to make an unique statement in installation format.
